NCPB eye new heights as handball season throws off
Record winners NCPB launch their bid for yet more handball history against Kenyatta University as the Kenya Handball Federation men and women leagues new season throw off this weekend at Nyayo Stadium.
The reigning men’s champions take on the students on Saturday from 4pm and will be keen to get off to a flier as they chase an unprecedented eighth title in a row.
NCPB lifted last season’s league at the death after a brilliant 30-25 win against their bitter rivals Ulinzi in their last fixture as they refused to relinquish their grip on Kenyan handball.
Last season’s runners up Ulinzi appear best-placed to capitalise if NCPB’s grip on the Kenyan handball is to come to an end and will expect to start strongly when they take on Desert Scorpions on Saturday 10:30am.
The Nixon Oyaro led-side, who have played second fiddle to defending champions NCPB for many years, hope stars will finally align for them this season.
JKUAT will play the General Service Unit (GSU) while Strathmore take on Black Mamba in another top clash of the men’s league on Saturday.
In the women’s action, champions Ulinzi Sharks launch their title defence against newcomers Fire Hawks on Saturday 1:30pm.
But before facing Ulinzi, Fire Hawks will have a taste of how playing in the top-tier league looks like when they take on Kenyatta University at 9am.
Record women’s league winners Nairobi Water will begin their bid to reclaim their title on Sunday against Fire Hawks.
In their bid to reclaim the women’s crown, the water queens face stiff competition from perennial rivals NCPB and current champions Ulinzi Sharks.
