NCPB edge GSU in nail-biting victory to defend title

NATIONAL CHAMPIONS NCPB CEREALS MAINTAIN THEIR DOMINANCE AGAINST THE GSU PARAMILITARIES
The defending champions, NCPB, secured a thrilling 25-24 victory over GSU in a fiercely contested match at the Nyayo National Stadium outdoor arena.
NCPB, renowned for their dominance in the national league, started the game with back-to-back points. However, GSU quickly found their rhythm and took a one-point lead before the first timeout.
After the break, NCPB equalized at 8-8, prompting GSU to intensify their defense, which resulted in two yellow cards for fouls committed. At halftime, NCPB held a narrow 15-14 lead.
The second half was a display of skill and intensity. Within the first three minutes, GSU leveled the score at 15-15. They maintained their lead for most of the half, but NCPB fought back to tie the game at 22-22 after a series of defensive plays.
The back-and-forth battle kept fans on the edge of their seats. NCPB coach Brian Matthews, initially composed, became increasingly animated as his team fought to stay ahead. With just 38 seconds left on the clock, GSU coach Joseph Okemwa called a timeout, followed by another from Matthews with nine seconds remaining.
Despite GSU’s efforts, NCPB held on to their one-point advantage, successfully defending their title as the final whistle blew.
Reflecting on the victory, Matthews emphasized their game-by-game approach. “We are taking each match as a final. That’s how we came from three points down to retake the lead.”
Meanwhile, GSU’s coach, Okemwa, praised his team’s resilience. “NCPB has been the national champions for a long time, and we are a new team trying to dethrone them.”
Among GSU’s standout players was fan-favorite number 99, SK, who put on an impressive performance in the intense showdown.
As the league progresses, both teams will be looking to build on their performances in pursuit of championship glory.
