Laiser High School basketball team head coach Eric Mutoro is anticipating high levels of basketball when the national competition begins next month between April 7 - 12 at the Shanzu Teachers College and Shimo la Tewa High School in Mombasa.
Speaking to
Citizen Digital, Mutoro said many teams that have qualified for the nationals are
in top gear hence the need to expect high quality basketball.
“We are going to witness some great basketball competition next month; teams have really improved from different regions and we have e to be at our best to win the title,”said Mutoro.
Laiser Hill are
in Group 'B' alongside North Eastern, Lukenya School and Sawagongo, a pool
Mutoro says they won’t underestimate despite them being dimmed the favourites.
“We look like
the favourite in that group but we are not taking anything for granted; we have to take every game like a final because
the fact that they are in the national mean they are the best in their region
so it’s one game at a time ,”added Mutoro
Last year Laiser
were beaten 65-69 by Dr. Aggrey from the Coast in the semi-finals meaning they
failed to defend the national title that was eventually won by the latter and
the head coach believes they have what it takes to reclaim the gong, but at the
same time they have to improve on their defence.
“We have to improve
on our defense; always targeting to be at our best; that is one area that we
have to work had and improve on before the nationals begin,” stated the former
Morans captain.
