Namwela Boys driver leads volleyball team to nationals

Namwela Boys High School driver Isaac Muresha has led the Bungoma-based secondary school to this year's KSSSA Games, slated for July 29th in Kisumu.

Acting as the school's volleyball team head coach, Muresha guided Namwela to their fourth consecutive Western region volleyball victory in the men's category over the weekend.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the driver-turned-coach attributed this success to the unwavering support he receives from both the teaching and non-teaching staff of the institution.

Muresha highlighted the crucial role played by school Principal Stephen Mutaki and the Board of Management in fostering an environment conducive to sporting excellence.

"We are happy as a community to play at the national level again. I extend my gratitude to the entire community and school leadership for the support they have been giving me along the way. This success is a result of teamwork," he said.

The school's efforts include sending Muresha for advanced coaching training and providing scholarships for talented students, enabling them to pursue their studies alongside their athletic ambitions.

"Namwela is like a volleyball academy. My players are on scholarships. Besides that, I also underwent international volleyball training in Uganda in 2023. This is all because everyone here believes that together we can achieve great things."

While on driving duty, Muresha revealed that players take the initiative to train independently, demonstrating their dedication and commitment to the sport.

"The team captain is my assistant coach. He takes over the training sessions under my instructions while I'm on my official driving duty. Every player respects him and sees him as a coach in my absence," he added.

As they prepare for the upcoming national games in Kisumu County, Namwela Boys High School stands as a testament to the power of strong leadership, community support, and the determination of young athletes to excel in sports alongside education.
