Namwamba orders reconstruction of sub-standard Bomet Stadium

Sports CS Ababu Namwamba has expressed dissatisfaction with the works at the 30,000-seater Bomet Stadium in Bomet County.

The CS, who was in an inspection tour at the facility which has stalled since 2015, ordered works at the project to start afresh in some sections, saying the contractor had done a sub-standard work.

"We want to build this stadium again to the international standards. We are also looking into expanding the facility to accommodate music recording studios, gym points, and all kinds of sports,” said the Sports CS.

Namwamba also urged the county governments to consult with respective federations and the national government before putting up sports facilities in order to comply with the standard measurements of every discipline.

The CS regretted the facility would have hosted the yet to be launched Talanta Hela program which will be flagged off next Thursday by President William Ruto.

The facility was a flagship project of Bomet’s first governor Isaac Ruto and has gobbled up Sh250 million.

During last year’s Senate Public Accounts and Investment Committee inspection, county officials said the project stalled following a land tussle with Bomet University, which claims part of the land.

The current Governor Dr. Hillary Barchok said his administration will provide enough land to facilitate the construction of the facility.

The Bomet Administration Football Club (APS) and NSL side Silibwet Leon's have been hosting their matches in the said stadium.
