Nairobi Utd coach Mwaura says team on course for FKF-PL promotion

Nairobi United lead the second tier league table on 48 points and are unbeaten in their last 10 matches, and travel to face Nzoia Sugar this Sunday with three points in mind.
Mwaura expressed optimism about securing three points away from home, provided his team puts in a performance similar to their last outing against Darajani Gogo, where they cruised to a 4-1 victory in the 'Nairobi Derby.'
“The team has a winning mentality, and you can see the hunger in the players. They want to keep winning,” noted Mwaura.
However, he urged his squad to improve their second-half concentration, pointing out that despite taking a comfortable 2-0 lead at halftime against Darajani Gogo, they briefly lost focus and allowed their opponents to pull one goal back before eventually sealing the win with two more goals.
“We did well in the first half, got a two-nil lead which looked very comfortable going into the second half, but my boys lost concentration and allowed our opponents to pull one goal back which gave us a lot of pressure.
“I think we lacked concentration and we are going to work on how to protect our lead.”
Mwaura emphasized that despite their strong position, it was still too early to think about the promotion race but added their eyes are firmly set on the achievement.
“The race is tough and very tight. You can see APs Bomet are not giving us a breathing space and should we slip up we will find it difficult to catch up with them, but we are going to give our best. We still have 15 matches to go but for us to reach there we want to adopt a "one game at a time" approach,” he added.
Nairobi United, fondly known as Naibois, are also in the contention for a Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup quarterfinal spot and they battle KCB in the Round of 16 on April 12.
They currently lead the NSL standings with 48 points from 23 matches, one point ahead of second-placed APs Bomet.
Kibera Black Stars are third on 39 points, followed by Naivas (37 points) in fourth while Darajani Gogo sit fifth, trailing the Shoppers by two points.
