Nairobi United drop points, Mombasa United beat Migori Youth

National Super League (NSL) leaders Nairobi United missed a golden opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table after being held to a goalless draw by MCF FC at Dandora Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Despite creating several chances, both sides failed to find the back of the net and ultimately shared the spoils with a point each.

Meanwhile, down at the Serani Sports Ground in Mombasa, Mombasa United delivered a commanding performance to defeat Migori Youth 4-1 in an action-packed NSL encounter.

Mombasa United got their goals through Bakari Nyae, Jack Marura brace and Paul Osama while Paul Okoth gave Migori Youth a consolation.

The hosts took the lead in the 15th minute through Bakari Nyae, who pounced on a rebound from Migori Youth goalkeeper Victor Kamungo after a powerful cross from Answar Shamuni.

Migori Youth equalised in the 26th minute when striker Paul Okoth capitalised on a defensive mix-up inside the Mombasa United box to level the score.

However, the home side regained the lead just before halftime. Striker Jack Marura drilled a low shot into the bottom corner after Kamungo failed to deal with a close-range effort from Paul Osama, sending Mombasa United into the break with a 2-1 advantage.

Early in the second half, Marura struck again, heading in a well-placed cross from Lawrence Okoth to extend the lead to 3-1.

Despite determined efforts from Clinton Okoth and Paul Okoth, Migori Youth couldn’t break through a solid Mombasa defense, with goalkeeper Kevin Tila making several key saves.

In the 69th minute, Mombasa United sealed the win when Paul Osama slotted home a smart pass from veteran midfielder Wilberforce Lugogo, beating substitute goalkeeper Michael Ogambo to make it 4-1.

After the match, a disappointed Migori Youth coach Sammy Owano expressed his frustration: "We didn’t play as we had planned. I’m not sure what went wrong today, but we’ll work to bounce back."

On the other hand, Mombasa United assistant coach Mwalimu Said praised his team’s efforts: "We prepared well and created more chances than in our previous games. I'm happy we were able to convert and get the four goals."
