Kenya has been awarded the hosting rights of the 2026 All-Africa Junior Team Championship, a landmark event expected to showcase the next generation of talent across the continent.
In a statement, Cabinet Secretary for Sports Salim Mvurya highlighted the significance of the championship.
“Once again, Kenya is Africa's choice, an affirmation of our formidable investment in sports infrastructure, strengthened policy and governance frameworks, and our proven excellence in organizing and hosting world-class sporting events.”
The tournament will bring together top junior golfers from across Africa, including teams from Egypt, South Africa, Nigeria, Morocco and Uganda among others, highlighting the growing depth of the sport on the continent.
Mvurya emphasized that the championship goes beyond competition, describing it as ‘a critical platform for youth development, talent identification, and international exposure.’
He added that it aligns with the government's broader push to expand opportunities for young athletes while positioning sport as a driver of economic growth and national pride.
Kenya's selection as host comes amid an increasingly busy international sporting calendar, with the country continuing to attract major events across disciplines.
The government believes this consistency reflects growing confidence in Kenya's ability to deliver world-class competitions.
At the same time, reforms within the sports sector are beginning to take shape. The CS pointed to recent governance improvements and policy adjustments aimed at strengthening accountability and long-term investment, alongside renewed efforts to promote clean sport.
Attention is also turning to development pathways, particularly in golf. The ministry is rolling out structured programs targeting grassroots talent identification and progression through academies, an initiative designed to give young players clearer routes to elite competition.
“As we host the 2026 All-Africa Junior Team Championship, Kenya reaffirms its unwavering commitment to nurturing the next generation of African sporting talent,” added Mvurya.
This event is expected to not only elevate junior golf but also reinforce Kenya's growing reputation as a continental hub for sport.
