The Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, the Creative Economy, and Sports, Salim Mvurya, says the government has completed travel arrangements for all participants in the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to take place jointly in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from August 2 to 30.
Mvurya assured
that all international teams, officials, and visitors coming into the country
for the tournament will not encounter any visa-related issues, stating that the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)
exemption has already been gazetted and officially granted.
“Each of the committees did a simulation
exercise for example those in hospitality and those in charge of a number of
events run through a simulation exercise. Already we have announced travel
arrangements where the ETA exemption has already been gazetted and granted and
therefore we don’t expect any challenges on Visa requirements for those who
will be coming here for the tournament,” said Mvurya.
The CS said the
final phase of preparations is underway, with key logistical and operational
elements already in place.
Regarding
security, Mvurya disclosed that a major orientation meeting for security
personnel will be held on July 16 to build on earlier simulation exercises
conducted to test the country’s preparedness.
“We have already done a simulation on matters
of security and on the 16 of July we will have a big on security where we will
continue to orient.”
He also called
on Kenyans to embrace unity and patriotism during the tournament, which is
expected to bring significant economic opportunities.
“This is an opportunity
for national pride and our moment to shine in areas of tourism, trade and
hospitality and Kenyans, we need to take these activities to continue uniting
our country,” affirmed Mvurya, calling for sobriety and national pride
throughout the event.
With less than a month to kick off, all eyes are on East Africa as the three countries gear up to deliver a historic CHAN tournament that would also act as a warm-up to AFCON 2027.
