Zetech University's rugby team manager Nicholas
Mutwiri has expressed confidence that his team will carry their impressive
sevens form into the upcoming KRU Championship 15s season.
The students will be making their second appearance
after being promoted to KRU Championship alongside TUM Marines.
Mutwiri praises the team's recent achievements and
highlighted their strong teamwork and discipline as the foundation for success.
“We’ve had a strong run in the 7s circuit, and
teamwork and high-level discipline worked well for us,” he told Citizen Digital.
“As we make a comeback into the Championship league,
we aim to get into the playoffs and win the league too.”
Zetech's performance in the 2024 sevens season has
been notable, with the team excelling in both Division One and Two.
The side claimed a total of 61 points in Division
Two where they won the Kabeberi 7s and Kakamega Ingo 7s titles.
They finished third in Division 2 at the Christie
7s, and held their own in Division One, placing 14th at Dala 7s, eighth at
Driftwood and 12th at Prinsloo 7s garnering 17 points in Division One after
only two appearances.
Mutwiri is confident that the team’s hard work will
pay off in the Championship 15s league, stating, "I trust in my players,
and its high time for the hard work to pay."
He also singled out several key players who have
been crucial to their sevens campaign including, Anderson Oduor, Bryan Ondego,
Mike Wekesa, Ken Wafula, and team captain Johnson Wafula. "Johnson's leadership
in the team is very commendable," Mutwiri added.
