Mutai Wins Amerucan Golf Tournament at Sigona

Weldon Mutai, who plays off handicap 27, returned an impressive 43 stableford points to emerge as the overall winner of the Amerucan Golf Day held at the 18-hole Sigona Golf Club on Saturday.

Mutai triumphed over Isaac Kariuki, handicap 17, after countback at the tournament that was graced by over 200 top amateur golfers from Nairobi and its environs. Geoffrey Warukira, handicap 21, was a distant third with 38 points.

Speaking after his victory, Mutai said:

“It is such a proud moment for me to be crowned the overall winner of this prestigious tournament. The competition was really tough but I had an amazing group of golfers who pushed me to play better. I am looking forward to upcoming events where I can continue showcasing my talent and skill.”

Handicap 35, Anir Maru, carded 38 points to be named division two winner while handicap 20, Daniel Mwangi, returned 39 points to claim the guest winner award.

Edgar Munene, who plays off handicap 12, was the guest runner-up with 37 points.

While Paul Wanjohi clinched was named the second nine winner with 21 points, Mayur Mulji claimed the first nine winner award after an excellent 22 points, beating a huge field.

Seasoned golfer Zipporah Gichigi won the longest drive lady while Karan J. Patel bagged it in the men’s category. Mayur Shah was the nearest to the pin.

The KCB-sponsored tournament saw handicap 23, James Mucheke awarded best effort after returning 13 stableford points.

The competition was also attended by KCB staff including Japheth Achola, Lawrence Kimathi, Millicent Mello, Peter Mwaura among others.
