Mudavadi backs Esports boom, vows to power youth with digital innovation

Speaking during the fourth season of Esports held at Charter Hall, Nairobi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi, highlighted the promising future of esports in Kenya. He assured young people and stakeholders of the government’s continued support in promoting the sport and nurturing local talent.
“I want to assure you that there is a great future in esports, and as a government, we will do what it takes to support this and other sports,” Mudavadi said.
He urged young players to work with the government to enhance technical skills such as coding, noting that such abilities could help position Kenya as a global tech hub.
“Esports is more than just gaming—it brings together technology, innovation, and digital entrepreneurship. As you play, I encourage you to work with us so that skills like coding can be upgraded. You have the power to transform the economy. Digital innovation is the future, and Kenya must lead this revolution,” he added.
Mudavadi also praised a young developer behind Hiru Game, a conservation-themed game designed to combat poaching and promote wildlife protection. He commended the creativity and encouraged young Kenyans to pursue impactful innovations.
“This is the kind of innovation that I know can do wonders. Viva esports. We will support you,” he said.
Also present at the event were French Ambassador to Kenya H.E. Arnaud Suquet, Nairobi Deputy Governor Njoroge Muchiri, and Esports Federation of Kenya President Ronney Lusigi. Their presence underscored the growing importance of international collaboration in strengthening Kenya’s esports ecosystem.
Notably, teams from the competition are set to represent Kenya in France—a major milestone in the country’s esports journey. The development underscores the sector’s role in nurturing talent, fostering innovation, and building global partnerships.
Mudavadi emphasized that Kenya’s participation in global esports competitions not only showcases local talent but also opens doors for investment and growth in the digital economy. He thanked Ambassador Suquet for his continued support and called on both local and international stakeholders to invest in the country’s emerging esports sector.
“Esports has the potential to create jobs and grow our economy. We welcome more partners to join us on this exciting journey,” he said.
Esports is among the fastest-growing industries globally, drawing millions of players and fans. The sector has grown into a multi-billion-dollar industry with opportunities in game development, digital marketing, content creation, and technology.
