MP Wanyama disappointed by Kipchoge Stadium delays

Speaking during an inspection tour at the facility, the Committee Chairman Dan Wanyama said not much has been done at the site despite construction having started a long time ago.

“The timelines that are given must be made and if that doesn't happen, heads must roll because we cannot continue doing things this way,” said Wanyama.

The Webuye West MP underlined the importance of completing the facility, considering its proximity with the athletics-rich region in the country.

He said the ministry has promised to do a down payment to the contractor after raising complaints of lack of funds, noting that his Committee was on check.

The Ministry of Sports has committed to inject Ksh300 million can resume after stalling for 17 months.

“There have been delays on release of funds due to the pressure of CHAN preparations where the government has prioritised Nyayo and Kasarani stadia,” noted Wanyama.

Kipchoge Keino Stadium is one of Kenya’s stadiums earmarked to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with the 12,000-capacity 64 Stadium in Eldoret being prepared as a training facility for teams during the fiesta.

The works at Kip Keino started in 2017 but has dragged on with construction often halted for prolonged periods.
