The Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, pledged his commitment to strengthening governance in Kenyan sports, starting with transparent elections for the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), scheduled for December 7th, 2024.

Speaking to the National Assembly Committee on Sports and Culture, Murkomen confirmed that measures are in place to ensure the FKF elections are fair and compliant with legal requirements. He emphasized that this process aligns with the reform agenda he committed to during his vetting, aiming to uphold term limits and mandatory elections across all federations.

"When Parliament vetted me, I promised to push for reforms to unlock the full potential of Kenya’s sports sector. I’m committed to seeing that FKF elections and all federations comply with the legal standards for transparent governance," stated CS Murkomen.

Through the Sports Registrar’s Office, the Ministry has submitted a verified list of FKF clubs to the FKF Electoral Board and set strict compliance checks as per the Sports Act, ensuring that candidates meet regulatory standards.

An independent electoral panel will oversee the election process, with additional monitoring by ministry officials and sports organizations.

Any disputes will be directed to the Sports Disputes Tribunal to provide a fair avenue for appeals.

"Our commitment to accountability in sports governance remains firm. These steps are crucial for building public trust and ensuring integrity in Kenya’s sports leadership," he added.

The Ministry’s efforts underscore the government’s broader push for accountability and trust in sports governance, a message that resonates strongly as the FKF elections draw closer.
