Moraa smashes national record at World Championships trials
Commonwealth Games 800m champion Mary Moraa clocked a new national record of 50.38 seconds to triumph in the women's 400m race at the World Championships trials in Nyayo Stadium.
Moraa brought the roof down with a stunning victory in the one-lap race lowering her own mark of 50.44 seconds she set at the Botswana Grand Prix in April 29.
"For sure I didn't expect to break the
national record especially with the conditions of the weather. My target was
just to run well and I am surprised how this result came" said Moraa.
The world bronze medallist has already dipped
under 51.00 seconds which is the qualifying standards for the global event in
400m
Being the reigning Diamond League winner, Moraa
has already secured an automatic slot in the women's 800m.
"My intention is to try and compete in both
events but that will be decided by the selection panel," said Moraa.
