Catholic Monks rugby team head coach, John
Isalambo, has rued his team’s missed chances in their match against Daystar
Falcons over the
weekend, saying they cost them vital points as they eye a return to Kenya Cup action.
Daystar Falcons narrowly beat the Monks
15-16 in their KRU Championship match played on Saturday at the Catholic
University, and Isalambo says the result punctured their hopes for a play
offs spot.
“We hosted Daystar which of course was going to be a hard game, but we
made it tough on ourselves. We were basically responsible for our own downfall.
We created good opportunities but we kept losing balls in the wrong areas; and
that cost us the game,”
lamented Isalambo.
Isalambo says they will have to win all
their remaining matches as they chase a return to the Kenya Cup next season.
“It was a tough pill to swallow of course. We didn't see it
coming. But we just have to win the remaining games. Our target was to win and
secure a home semi-final, but as it stands, we will have to win our remaining two games. Regardless
of the result, we will just have to play the quarters.”
Catholic Monks are currently third on the
KRU Championship table with Masinde Muliro University leading the log.
It is an all-university affair at the top of the table, with Daystar Falcons and Zetech Oaks occupying second and fourth places respectively, as Homeboyz RFC rounds off the top five sides in the championship.
