Mombasa Utd eye Muhoroni Youth scalp after snapping poor run
The team's playmaker, Answar Shamuni, was the difference in their 1-0 win against Migori Youth, securing Mombasa United’s first away win of the season.
This victory came after a solid performance two weeks ago, where they earned a goalless draw against Kisumu All Stars.
Currently sitting 15th in the NSL standings, Mombasa United have recorded five wins, four draws and eight losses in the 2024-2025 season.
Said is confident as they head into their next match against Muhoroni Youth, who are currently second from the other side of the table.
"We need to keep improving, and I know our fans are eager to see us build on the momentum from our away win. Their expectations are high, but we are prepared to deliver another victory," Said remarked.
The coach highlighted the team’s shift in approach and the inclusion of younger players as key to their recent success.
"It’s a change in mentality. The team is heading in the right direction. We've mixed experienced players with young, energetic talent, and that combination has brought a lot of positive energy to the squad," Said explained.
He pointed out that it was the young players who played a key role in their recent draw with Kisumu All Stars, and credited the team’s youth for their gritty win in Migori.
"It was a tough battle, but we managed to secure the three points."
With reports suggesting the departure of over six players in the mid-season transfer window, Coach Said confirmed that they plan to bring in no more than four new signings to strengthen the squad.
"We have a strong squad with quality players, so we won’t exceed four new signings," he said.
Supported by the Shahbal Foundation, Mombasa United struggled at the start of the season but is now focused on turning their fortunes around.
