Mombasa United rope in 11 players to strengthen squad

Kenya’s National Super League (NSL) side, Mombasa United has made a bold move to bolster its squad by signing 11 new players during the mid-season transfer window.
According to Mombasa United's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Nick Arunga, the club had no choice but to return to the transfer market after a tough beginning to the season.
"The season didn't start as we hoped, mainly because we were delayed in recruitment and had a shortened pre-season. As the season progressed, we recognized certain areas where we hadn’t built our squad well enough, which is why we’ve returned to the market to strengthen those positions.
"We are pleased with the quality of the new players we’ve brought in. While we couldn’t secure everyone we targeted, as some chose to join other clubs, we are confident that the players we have signed will play a key role in helping us achieve our goals for the season," Nick added.
AbdulRahman Mwinyi – goalkeeper on loan from Bandari
Ezekiel Owade – goalkeeper from Mara Sugar
Sammy Riziki "Bonge" – midfielder from Congo Boys
Denis Miruye – from 3K FC
Abdul Amin Mwanjira – midfielder from Mombasa Stars
Ali Sheikh – forward from Sharp United
Additionally, the team has brought in Paul Osama from Mombasa All-Stars, Ramadan Mwakoi and Elvis Ouma from SOKIKI Academy, Shaban Chaka from Kaluluini FC and Bakari Nyae.
Aruga emphasized that with these new signings, the club hopes to turn their fortunes around and achieve better results in the second half of the season.
Mombasa United also announced the departure of 13 players which included former Bandari players like Yema Mwamba, Denis Magige, Omar Somobwana and goalkeeper Alelee Sheikh.
Other players who have left the club include Eric Chivatsi, Mbarak Musa, Abdulkarim Mohamed, Omar Hamis, Rajab Chai, and Yusuf Mwijo, Ramadhan Mwanzia, Benard Odhiambo and Ramadhan Salim.
With a refreshed squad, Mombasa United will be looking to improve their position in the NSL and make a strong push for promotion as the season progresses.
"Our goal is to strengthen the team and ensure we finish the season on a high note. The new signings are a vital part of our strategy moving forward, and we are confident that these fresh additions will bring the energy and skill needed to improve our performance in the second half of the season,” added Arunga.
The Mombasa based NSL side sponsored by Shahbal Foundation currently sits 16th on the log on 23 points after 20 matches.
