Mombasa Stars win derby, Naivas drop points

Mombasa Stars won the anticipated NSL derby 2-0 against Mombasa Elite in National Super League (NSL) at Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa.

Samson Karisa and Alvin Ngoto scored in each half to give Stars a relief after unbearable outing against Kajiado last weekend.

Both teams lacked precision in most part of the first half - playing in the midfield area.

Mombasa Elite strikers Augustine Simiyu and Emmanuel Lunalo attempts were calmly dealt with by Mombasa Stars defenders led by Manigi Alfred.

Towards stoppage time, the home side piled pressure in Elite danger area Samson Karisa and Abdulrahaman Abdallah shots kissing the side post.

With three minutes added time in the first half, Stars captain Samson Karisa gave the home team the lead, powering a powerful header past Richard Ebenyo.

Bandari fc loanee Alvin Ngoto completed Joel Kihara pass to double Mombasa Stars lead just 52 seconds into second half.

Emmanuel Lunalo failed to tap in from an empty net in close range to deny Mombasa Elite a consolation goal in closing minutes.

In the other match, Naivas FC once again dropped points after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Darajani Gogo at KIBHT Sports Complex Grounds in Ngong.
