Mombasa gears up for inter-parliamentary games
Mombasa County is set to host the East Africa Community Inter-Parliamentary Games from December 6-18, drawing thousands of visitors from across the region during the festive season.

“Enhancing Integration through Inter-Parliamentary Games, and Experience the
Magic of Mombasa,” the event celebrates 25 years of regional unity,
cooperation, and teamwork.
Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir has extended a warm invitation to Kenyans and East Africans to take advantage of the games as a unique addition to their holiday plans.
“We are elated to host this
important event, which allows us to showcase Mombasa’s tourism potential to
both domestic and international visitors,” he said.
Chief Officer for Tourism, Trade, and Culture Pauline Oginga emphasized the cultural significance of the games, calling on locals to show unity and hospitality.
“This is more than just a
sporting event; it’s a chance for East Africans to come together, share
stories, and celebrate our shared heritage. Mombasa is ready to welcome our
guests with open arms and offer them an unforgettable experience,” she said.
County Executive Committee Member for Tourism, Culture, and Trade, Mohamed Osman, highlighted the event as a milestone in regional integration.

and cooperation within the East African region,” he noted.
The games are expected to attract over 3,000 delegates, including parliamentarians, staff, and regional leaders, with most hotels in Mombasa already fully booked for the festive season. Chief Officer Pauline Oginga assured visitors of seamless planning, including collaboration with security agencies to ensure smooth operations.
“Mombasa is a tourist haven, and we are ready to showcase our county during this festive season,” she added.
The games will feature a
variety of disciplines, including football, netball, volleyball, athletics,
darts, and even tug-of-war, taking place at venues across Mombasa. Beyond the
competition, delegates will have the opportunity to explore iconic sites such
as Fort Jesus, the historic Old Town, and the vibrant Spice Market, offering a
glimpse into Mombasa’s rich history and coastal charm.
This year’s championship will include teams from nine EAC member states: Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Somalia, which is participating for the first time.
As the games coincide with Mombasa’s festive season, the event promises a unique blend of sports, culture, and tourism, making it the perfect time to experience the magic of Mombasa.
