Mombasa is set for an intense derby clash in the National Super League (NSL) on Saturday as Mombasa Stars take on Mombasa United at Serani Stadium.

The long-standing rivalry promises high drama, with fans eagerly anticipating an action-packed encounter.

Mombasa United, playing on home turf, will look to build on their thrilling 3-2 victory over SS Assad last weekend in Ukunda. That hard-fought win has boosted their confidence, and they are determined to carry that momentum into this crucial fixture.

Mombasa United team manager Gilbert Wesonga is optimistic about the impact of the club’s new signings, believing they will add depth and quality to the squad.

"We are ready, and our players are fully prepared under head coach Said. After our away win against SS Assad, we are in a strong position to claim all three points, especially with our new signings, who have integrated well into the team," Wesonga said.

On the other side, Mombasa Stars, led by midfielders Abdulrahman Said and Mwanzah Mwema, are eager to turn around their recent poor form.

Despite recent struggles, the players remain hopeful and confident in their ability to rise to the challenge.

"I'm confident we’ll secure a win despite our previous results. We will work together for better outcomes," Said stated.

Mwema echoed his teammate’s determination:

"I know it’s going to be tough, but we have everything we need to get the maximum points. We will push to the end as a team."

Mombasa Stars head coach Mohammed Hussein "Madaga" has urged his players to make the most of their opportunities as they fight to climb out of the relegation zone.

"We have to get it right. We don’t belong in this position. We must start winning matches, both home and away, if we are to survive in the NSL," said Madaga.

Their earlier encounter this season ended in a frustrating 0-0 draw, a result neither side will want to repeat. With Mombasa Stars battling to escape relegation, both teams are desperate for a win.

Currently, Mombasa United sits in 16th place with 26 points, while Mombasa Stars are 18th with 18 points. A victory for either side could be crucial in their fight to improve their standings in the league
