Mohammed calls for good football governance as Donholm Seniors award best performers
Extreme Sports chief executive officer Hussein Mohammed has
emphasized on the need to have good governance in football.
Hussein’s calls come at a time that the football management
in the country is in limbo following a court ruling that barred Football Kenya
Federation[FKF] temporarily barred the federation from proceeding with its Annual General
Meeting until a petition filed by Sports journalist Milton Nyakundi is heard
and determined.
But hardly had ink dried on paper, world football governing
body Fifa wrote a terse letter to FKF warning of ‘third-party’ interference
urging the federation to proceed with the AGM, a development that has created a
lacuna in football management in the country.
Nick Mwendwa, who has served for maximum two terms, is
expected to exit from FKF leadership, as per the Sports Act 2013, but it
remains unclear if he intends to make another stab.
Others who've shown interest in the race include ex-FKF
chief Sam Nyamweya, former international Sammy 'Kempes' Owino, Gor Mahia CEO
Sammy Ocholla, among others.
In the run-up to the AGM, the federation had blocked Hussein
Mohamed from attending the meeting noting that he was not among the officials
they recognised from Kenyan Premier League Club Murang’a SEAL, a move that drew
sharp reactions from the latter.
Meanwhile, speaking when he presided over the Donholm
seniors’ football club awards gala, Hussein commended the team for putting in
place a good structure noting that this can be emulated in the governance of
football in the country.
''It’s important for us as stakeholders to offer the younger
generation a solid football base,'' Hussein said, adding that, “The Wadau
League has been a pivotal structure in mentoring retired footballers.”
On his part, Charles Karisa, Donholm Football Club
noted: ''We formed this team as a way of
injecting positive change into the community.”
During the gala, Donholm seniors’ football club awarded the
best performing players as they celebrated winning the Wazee Pamoja League for
the second year running.
The Donholm Seniors Football Club President Abdalla Yusuf,
Club Patron Charles Karisa and Deputy Patron Ernest Farrah congratulated the
season winners noting that the success of Donholm Seniors in football is an
inspiration to other retired players who should use football as a means of
taking care of their mental wellness health and keeping fit.
