National Super League (NSL) side MOFA FC brought life to Jomo Kenyatta Stadium with a resounding 5-0 victory over Vihiga United, bouncing back in emphatic fashion after last week’s 2-0 defeat to Kisumu AllStars.
The dominant performance was the highlight of
the weekend in the FKF National Super League, on a match day also marred by
crowd trouble at the Jamhuri Complex.
Abdalah Swalleh opened the scoring for MOFA in
the 21st minute before Lawrence Okoth doubled the lead just before halftime.
In the second half, Vihiga conceded an own
goal in the 59th minute, followed swiftly by Okoth’s second in the 62nd.
Vincent Omondi rounded off the rout with an 82nd-minute strike to seal the
five-star performance in Kisumu.
In one of the day’s most dramatic moments, the
match between Kibera Black Stars and APS Bomet was abandoned in the 73rd
minute. Substitute Philip Wasai had just equalised for APS Bomet when chaos
erupted. The referee ruled the ball had crossed the line, a decision fiercely
contested by the home fans.
Kibera had taken the lead earlier through
Chesara Eusters, but the game could not proceed past the equalizer as crowd
unrest forced an abrupt end. Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is expected to
issue a formal statement on the outcome.
In another match, Muli’s Children Family, MCF
were held to a barren draw against 3K FC at Kenyatta Stadium, both sides
created chances but were wasteful in front of goal, sharing the spoils in a
goalless draw.
Luanda thought they had taken a lead going
into the break at Mumboha Grounds, but the lead was wiped out deep in first
half stoppage time. The match ended 1-1 after both sides failed to force a
winner.
In Ukunda, Mombasa Stars stunned SS Assad with
a 1- 0 win to extend their winning run to three, their longest winless streak
this season.
Nzoia Sugar stunned in-form Darajani Gogo,
ending their impressive six-match unbeaten run, which included five wins, 18
goals scored, just three conceded, and five clean sheets kept.
The top two sides will qualify automatically to the top
flight next season while number three will play the side that finishes 17th in
the Kenya Premier League, in a two-leg promotion playoff match.
