Minjis: Inexperience behind Kisped Queens' poor league debut
Kisped Queens' head coach Daniel Minjis has described the team’s debut season in the Football Kenya Federation Women’s Premier League as a steep learning curve.
This marks the first time the team competes at the top level of Kenyan women’s football, a significant leap from their experience in lower-tier leagues.
According to Minjis, the transition has been both demanding and enlightening.
Reflecting on their first-leg campaign, Minjis acknowledged the team’s struggles, citing inexperience and player fatigue as key factors that have hampered their performance.
“We have not achieved the results we had hoped for in the first leg,” Minjis admitted. “This is our first time playing in the women’s top league, and we are still learning the dynamics of competing at this level.”
A major hurdle, according to the coach, has been player fatigue, worsened by the league’s demanding schedule and frequent travel for away matches.
These factors have taken a toll on the players’ physical and mental fitness, often leaving them outpaced and outperformed by more experienced opponents.
Despite their challenges, Minjis emphasized that the journey has offered invaluable lessons, which the team intends to apply in the season's second leg.
As the league heads into the mid-season break, Kisped Queens find themselves in 9th place on the table with 10 points.
While the results may not meet their initial expectations, Minjis remains optimistic about the team’s potential for improvement in the second half of the season.
