Mara Sugar head coach George Midenyo has blamed Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat to Tusker FC and the recent string of unwanted results, to lack of full-time concentration.

Mara suffered their second loss of the season and are winless in the last three matches despite their earlier dream start of life in the top flight football that has seen them join the title contenders.

“We showed some laxity across the board. I can’t single out a specific department, but we’ve been lacking in several areas,” Midenyo said.

“It’s a mental adjustment—coming from the lower division, where matches typically heat up after 10 to 15 minutes. This is a baptism of fire in the Kenyan Premier League.”

The Sugar Millers from Narok County now face a critical match against Gor Mahia in Matchday 11 at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay this weekend.

Midenyo warned his charges to step up so as to avoid the blip turning into a crisis.

“The packed fixture schedule has been tough on the boys, especially as newcomers to the FKF Premier League,” Midenyo acknowledged.

“Facing Gor Mahia will be a real test. The league’s dynamics often hinge on key match outcomes, and this one is pivotal.”

Despite the recent setbacks Mara Sugar’s impressive start saw them secure four wins, four draws, and just two losses, placing them second on the table with 16 points emerging as the surprise package in the title contention.
