Midenyo sets realistic goals as Mara Sugar FC climbs to second with win over Bidco United
Mara Sugar FC head coach George
Midenyo is managing expectations for the club's debut season in the top-tier
league, noting that while winning the title isn’t a promise he can make; his
team is fully committed to competing for maximum points in every game.
Midenyo’s remarks came after a
confident 2-0 victory over Bidco United on Sunday at Kenyatta Stadium in
Machakos.
Mara Sugar took an early lead, with
Meshack Karani scoring in the 4th minute, followed by a second goal from Mike
Isabwa in the 43rd minute.
The win lifted Mara Sugar to second
place in the standings with 14 points, only three points behind leaders KCB,
and with a game in hand.
"My players put in a great
effort, and we earned a well-deserved two-goal victory," Midenyo said.
"We had some challenges earlier
this season, especially with conceding early goals, but we managed to address
that in yesterday’s match. To our fans, I can’t promise anything more than our
relentless pursuit of three points each time we step onto the pitch."
Meanwhile, Bidco United’s head
coach, Anthony Akhulia, acknowledged his team's struggles on both ends of the
field, leaving them in 13th place with just six points from seven matches.
"It was a challenging game for
us, both defensively and in attack," Akhulia commented.
"Playing against a physical
team like Mara Sugar requires extra caution, particularly with aerial balls,
and we didn’t manage that well. We missed defensive opportunities, and although
we created chances, we failed to capitalize. We need to step up and secure a
win in our next match because our current position doesn’t reflect our
potential," he said, visibly disappointed.
