The towering defender has been named in Harambee Stars’ provisional squad for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), marking a significant milestone in his career after a lengthy and frustrating spell on the sidelines.
“It hasn’t been easy staying away from doing what I know best. I was very low mentally and frustrated because I had season targets to achieve. That all became impossible while I was out injured,” Kibwage told Citizen Digital.
Kibwage’s return is a welcome boost not only for Tusker FC but also for national team selectors, who have long relied on his experience and consistency at the heart of the defense.
Last season, the 26-year-old featured in over 30 matches across all competitions without picking up a single injury, highlighting his reliability and endurance.
“Last season was one of my best in the Kenya Premier League,” he reflected. “I was the most consistent player in the team, and my performances were top. It’s been a good run since I joined Tusker, except for this injury setback.”
His return to the Harambee Stars is not something he takes for granted.
“First of all, I thank God for this great opportunity. I feel so, so happy to make a comeback to the national team, and I just pray all goes well. Now it’s all about maintaining my place in the squad,” he said.
With CHAN qualifiers looming, Kibwage knows the stakes are high.
“I have to perform well, defend well, and help the team keep clean sheets during the tournament. That’s the only way I’ll get to the next level,” he added.
He also paid tribute to Tusker FC for their unwavering support during his recovery.
“Tusker have been like family to me. They ensured I got the best treatment and stood by me through rehab. I’m truly grateful, they made my comeback manageable. Without them, it would have been a huge burden.”
Now fully fit and highly motivated, Kibwage is determined to make the most of this second chance and cement his place in both club and country.
