Menengai Oilers receive major boost ahead of Kenya Cup playoffs

Menengai Oilers have received a timely boost ahead of their crucial Kenya Cup playoff clash against Kenyatta University's Blak Blad this weekend at the Refinery Grounds, Nakuru County, with four key players set to return to action.

Team captain Ibrahim Ayoo is back in the squad after serving a six-match suspension, while fullback Abutwalib Wesonga, scrum-half Samson Onsomu, and forward Emmanuel Mulindo have all been declared fit to play.

The return of these key players strengthens head coach Gibson Weru’s squad as they brace for a tough encounter against a resurgent Blak Blad side aiming to make history in the Kenya Cup playoffs.

Oilers forward coach Lawi Buyachi emphasized the impact of the returning players on the team’s depth and strategy.

"Their return is timely heading into a crucial playoff game against a fired-up Blad," Buyachi told Citizen Digital. "Ayoo and Mulla bring their wealth of experience to boost the forwards, giving us more options, while Onsomu and Wesonga add expertise in executing our game plan."

Oilers will be looking to capitalize on their strengthened lineup to secure a Kenya Cup semifinal spot, where they would face KCB RFC, who have already booked a home semifinal slot.

In the other quarterfinal fixture, Nondescripts will host Kenya Harlequin at the Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi. The winner of that clash will travel to face defending champions Kabras RFC in the semifinals.
