Menengai Oilers coach Gibson Weru has acknowledged the challenge ahead as his team prepares to face KCB this weekend.

Speaking to Citizen Digital at the Refinery Grounds in Nakuru, Weru stated that the upcoming match would provide a clear indicator of the team's performance.

"Winning is beneficial because with every victory, we earn points, and we identify areas that need improvement to work on. However, the next two weeks will give us a precise picture of where we stand. We will play KCB away, a team that has been very consistent, and then we will face Kabras in Nakuru," Weru said.

Currently in second place, the KCB Rugby Club is set to host an exhilarating match. Having remained unbeaten so far, KCB faces immense pressure as they play at home in front of their passionate fans.

The outcome of this match is likely to shape the structure of the upcoming playoffs.

The Oilers are eager to avenge their close encounter from their last meeting when they faced off on Saturday at the “Lions Den” in Ruaraka, Nairobi.

Both teams scored points, with KCB Rugby defeating Nondescripts 53-08, while Oilers triumphed over Impala with a score of 56-03 in the Kenya Cup's eighth round."

Weru also extended his best wishes to the national team for the Vancouver tournament and congratulated Dennis Abukuse on his selection to represent the country.

"We are looking forward to his return to help us maintain the team's performance. In the Kenya Cup, we haven't missed Abukuse much, but we will need him for the upcoming matches," Weru added.

The Vancouver 7s tournament is scheduled to take place from February 21-23, 2025, at BC Place Stadium in Canada. Kenya has been placed in Pool A alongside Argentina, France, and Great Britain.
