Menengai Oilers aim for vengeance in Kenya Cup clash against KCB

Menengai Oilers Vs Blak Blad on Saturday 18th January 2025
Menengai Oilers head coach Gibson Weru has backed
his side to get one up on KCB when the two teams clash this Saturday in the Kenya
Cup semi-final match at Ruaraka Sports Club.
KCB have consistently stood in Oilers way of
claiming their first ever Kenya Cup title but Weru believes they have the tools
to upset the former champions this year.
This is the fifth consecutive time the two sides are
meeting in the Kenya Cup semi-finals with Oilers only triumphing in 2021-2022
when they won 24-17 but lost 34-28 to Kabras Sugar in the final.
Their recent clash was during the ended regular
season that saw KCB dig deep to win 29-27 and is this performance that is
fuelling Weru’s hopes to see off the bankers for just third time in 11 meetings.
“They are a very good team and have top players and
great depth but we don’t fear them. Even if they are at home we will make them
sweat to the limit because we are very much ready for them and our aim is to
get a win,” said Weru.
Weru has pinned their hopes to edge out KCB on the
return of key players who sat out their recent meeting due to injuries.
“We missed some of our key players in the season
regular but still game a run for their money at their home turf. I feel we have learnt our lesson well and I
believe we will be ready to beat them and qualify for the final.”
The Nakuru-based side finished third in the regular
season behind second-placed KCB and reigning champions Kabras, who are eyeing a
four-feat this season, while Nondescripts RFC rounded up the playoffs slots in
fourth.
In the other semi-final, champions Kabras host
Nondies at the Kakamega Showground.
