Nakumatt FC returned to winning ways sinking Kakamega Homeboyz 6-1 in a lop-sided Kenyan Premier league clash staged at Camp Toyoyo grounds on Sunday.
Nakumatt took an early lead, scoring one of the fastest KPL goals in the first minute through Boniface Mukhekhe’s long range volley, from outside the area.
Nakumatt doubled the lead in the 13th minute when Moses Odhiambo’s free-kick found opposing keeper Mike Wanyika off guard, allowing Tom Adwak to slot in.
Homeboyz real chance in the first half came in the 28th minute but Eston Esiye wasted a glorious chance to pull one back.
However, their chance came four minutes later after Andrew Waisswa headed home from Noah Wafula’s corner.
Trailing 2-1, the match later became unpredictable as Homeboyz posed threats after another in search for an equaliser, missing another good chance in the 36th minute.
It took only 35 seconds into the second half for Nakumatt to get their third goal as substitute Brian Nyaikan who replaced John Njoroge claimed an assist, delivering a fine cross which was headed home by Kelvin Thairu.
Thairu was at it again this time shooting to the right top corner, past goallie Wanyika, to extend his team’s scoreline to 4-1, before custodian Lucas Indeche scored from 68 yards out, a magical moment as Nakumatt proved too strong for Homeboyz.
The win lifted Nakumatt from position 15 to 12 in the table standings with 23 points. Head coach Mewlis Medo could not hide his joy at the win since taking over at the side three weeks ago.
He said: ” I’ m happy for them(the players). It’s an amazing job really, people can say a lot about our recent performances but all I did was to take my ideas to the players; we still have the same lads; same squad; and we now get good results.I’m happy,”the American said.
Medos next assignment which will be his third match is at Chemelil Sports Complex against host Chemelil Sugar.
