Posta Rangers Head Coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo thinks newly unveiled Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy will need a local coach as part of his backroom staff.

Pamzo says the addition of a local coach into the technical bench will ease his task in identifying the potential talents.

McCarthy was on Monday unveiled alongside his backroom staff of three – Vasili Manousakis, Moeneeb Josephs and Piela Maposa.

The former Harambee Stars defender added that in many countries, foreign coaches are usually given at least one local coach to make their work easy as they settle.

“McCarthy needs one or two local coaches. He is coming to a new country where he also has to learn the language and traditions so having the local coaches will help him a lot,” said Pamzo.

During his unveiling, McCarthy acknowledged the potential the country had in producing talents, hoping to lead the country in churning out the talents that would see Kenya qualify for the World Cup and dream of bagging the 2027 African Cup of Nations.

“I discovered the talent that Kenya has, and you look at the other national teams which are doing well and you ask why not, I ask why not… we can also go up there. I am here to make Kenya a football powerhouse,” said the former Bafana Bafana player.

Former Head Coach Engin Firat had Bandari Head Coach Ken Odhiambo and Kariobangi Sharks Head Coach William Muluhyia as his assistants.

McCarthy’s first task with Harambee Stars will be against Gambia on March 17 and Gabon on March 20, in the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers, where he is expected to hit the ground running to revive Kenya’s hopes of securing the most coveted world’s tournament.

Harambee Stars currently sit fourth in Group F with five points, trailing five points to group leaders Ivory Coast.
