Mathare United Fall in Ukunda as Kisumu All Stars Triumph in Mombasa

Mathare United's pursuit of the top spot in the National Super League faced a setback as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to SS Assad at the Ukunda ShowGround.

The lone goal came in the 30th minute courtesy of Mathius Mwatabu.

Elsewhere in Mbaraki, Mombasa, Kisumu All Stars dominated Mombasa Elite with a convincing 4-1 victory.

Brian Ombura, Bruce Oduor, and a brace from Noah Ngiendo secured the goals for Kisumu All Stars, while Hakimu Msamu scored a consolation for Mombasa Elite.

Kisumu All Stars took advantage of Mombasa Elite's defensive lapses, scoring two quick goals within two minutes.

Ombura found the net in the 8th minute after a strong corner kick from Japheth Odoke, followed by Oduor's strike into the bottom corner two minutes later.

Although the home side settled into the match later in the first half, registering their first shot on target in the 40th-minute courtesy of Edyson Hamisi, it was calmly saved by Kisumu All Stars goalkeeper Stephen Otieno, resulting in a corner kick.

Three minutes before halftime, Mombasa Elite found a glimmer of hope as they scored a penalty through midfielder Hakimu Msamu after Kisumu All Stars' defenders handled the ball in the 18-yard box.

In the 70th minute, substitute Noah Ngiendo extended Kisumu All Stars' lead with a powerful 35-yard shot. Seven minutes later, he secured his brace from close range, finishing a well-taken pass from Brian Steve.

Mombasa Elite remained in 17th place in the NSL standings with 19 points, while Kisumu All Stars climbed to 5th place with 36 points.
