Mathare
United tasted their first defeat of the National Super League season after
going down 3-1 to Mombasa Stars at Mbaraki Stadium on Sunday.
Mombasa
Stars dominated the first half, with Brian Moraya and Joel Kihara causing
problems for the Mathare United defense.
Mwanzia gave
the hosts a deserved lead in the 30th minute with a hard ground shot past
Mathare goalkeeper Steve Njunge.
Kihara doubled
the lead five minutes later with a header from Hawkins Ademba's cross.
Mathare
United were forced to make three first-half substitutions, introducing Elli
Esieche, Cliff Kasuti, and Elias Cheruiyot in an attempt to stem the tide.
Cheruiyot
pulled a goal back for the visitors just before half-time with a
counter-attacking goal from Esieche's pass.
Mathare
United continued to press for an equalizer in the second half, but Mombasa
Stars held on for a comfortable victory.
Lucky Kaingu
sealed the three points for the hosts two minutes from time with a header from
Ibrahim Athman's corner kick.
