Matano can end Sofapaka's struggles despite poor start, says Mulee
Former Harambee Stars tactician Jacob Ghost Mulee is confident
Sofapaka will pull away from the relegation red-line and finish in a
respectable position at the end of the current FKF-PL season.
According to Mulee, who also coached Tusker FC in the
past, new Sofapaka head coach Robert Matano is experienced enough to salvage
Batoto Ba Mungu’s fortunes after a poor streak that has seen them lose to
Tusker and FC Talanta before securing a one-all draw against Mathare United in
their opening three fixtures.
“I do not doubt with
Sofapaka whether they will finish in a respectable position. They will be up
there and not battling to avoid relegation as people are thinking.
“Remember that Matano is a man who has mastered all the corners
of football in the country and knows how he will help Sofapaka.
“Yes, Sofapaka has lost
two matches in the hands of Tusker and FC Talanta’s hands, but he will turn around
the fortunes of this team.
Mulee says the expiry of the FIFA suspension that prevented
Sofapaka from registering new players will enhance their chances of having a
better show this term.
“They had a problem in their opening matches because of the FIFA
ban. They were not able to register their new players because of the embargo,
but now things have been sorted, and the players are available for selection.
“I think it’s too early to say that there is cause for alarm in
Sofapaka because they have the right person to handle it,” Mulee said.
The 2009 league champions sit 16th
on the FKF-PL log with a single point, above defending Champions Gor Mahia and Police FC, who haven’t
kicked the ball thanks to their involvement in the CAF Champions League and CAF
Confederations Cup consecutively.
