Masinde Muliro rugby team triumphed in their seventh consecutive match, defeating the Daystar Falcons at MMUST Grounds in Kakamega today in the KRU Championship.
The Falcons dominated MMUST's territory in the opening minutes, with Eddy Wambigu missing a penalty in the seventh minute.
MMUST were first to get on the scoreboard through Veron Kaburu's drop-goal, making it 3-0 in the second quarter.
However, the fly-half couldn't convert the second penalty after one of the host team's players failed to release the ball on time. Despite the 10-meter distance, the kicker couldn't change the scoreboard.
Emmanuel Marakho split MMUST's defense with a powerful run on the right edge and dove to score the first try, although the conversion went wide.
Byron Ogada responded in less than a minute with a try, but Veron missed the conversion. The first half ended with the home team leading 8-5.
Two minutes into the second half, the visitors came on strong, with Eddy Wambingu scoring a penalty following an offside call by the referee.
Churchill Oyagi scored for the hosts, and fullback Byron Ogada successfully converted it, making the score 15-8.
Increased pressure was witnessed towards the end of the third quarter as the visitors scored a try that narrowed the gap to 15-13.
Washington extended the home team's lead to 18-13 at full-time after scoring a penalty. The visitors were awarded a losing point for their efforts.
The disciplined performance by both teams highlights the competitive spirit of the match. MMUST RFC aims to continue their strong run in the league, while the Daystar Falcons will look to make improvements in their upcoming fixtures.
