Kenya Federation vice president McDonald Mariga has termed the ongoing AFCLN
U-20 as a huge platform for Kenya's Rising Stars to market themselves to
established clubs.
Mariga, who won the
UEFA Champions League with Inter Milan during his playing days, said
tournaments like AFCON usually expose players to many international agents and
scouts.
"This age bracket
is a prime for a player, and many professional clubs opt for players when
growing up, so this is the right time for our boys to showcase what they are
blessed with," said Mariga in Cairo.
He has at the same
time intimated that FKF is on course to build a sports complex so as to give
youth a place to grow their untapped talents.
"I have seen many
complexes around the world, and Egypt here starts earlier, but we will also
have our own as we are in the process of developing something which our youths
will be proud of".
On their side, players
led by midfielder Humphrey Aroko echoed Mariga's sentiments, adding that they
will work extra hard to impress foreign clubs and also clinch their maiden
title.
"Training is
going on very well, and everyone is giving their 100%, thus we promise Kenyans
we will not let them down and also utilize this opportunity."
Kenya will open their
account against Morocco on Thursday, 1st May at the 30th June Stadium.
