Mara Sugar FC technical director Boniface Ambani has warned that the newbies of the FKF-Premier League will not just participate but compete after securing promotion to the top flight for the first time last season.

The Narok based side earned their maiden promotion to the top tier league after they clinched the National Super League (NSL) title last season with Mathare United finishing second to make an instant return to the FKF-Premier League.

They start their new life in the top tier league against Kakamega Homeboyz at the Awendo Green Stadium on Sunday.

“Since the formation of this team the main target was to get to the Premier League. We worked so hard to be here and now it is time to deliver results. We have been waiting for this opportunity and the players, technical bench and everyone is excited and looking forward to making our fans proud,” said Ambani.

“We will not just fill the numbers but we’re in the Premier League to fight for good results and a good finish at the end of the season.”

The former Kenyan international has also backed the side to shrug off struggles that promoted teams encounter in their first season.

“They are a good team (Kakamega Homeboyz) with the experience of playing in the league but that is not the reason for us to fear them. They have made a lot of changes and they are unpredictable but we will strive to give our best and make sure we get maximum points on Sunday.”

Seven matches will be played in the first round this weekend with all teams in action safe for reigning champions Gor Mahia and Police FC, who are engaged with continental assignments.

In other Saturday's fixtures, Posta Rangers will host Bandari FC in the round one early kick off at 1PM at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos County.

Former champions Tusker FC will launch their quest to reclaim their title against last season strugglers Sofapaka at Machakos from 4PM.

KCB will take on Kariobangi Sharks at Police Sacco while Shabana will be away to take on Bidco United at Thika Municipal Stadium.

On Sunday, Mathare United will mark their return to the Premier League with a match against AFC Leopards while Ulinzi Stars will host Muranga Seal at Ulinzi Sports Complex.
