The Magical Kenya Open (MKO) has granted Kenya five extra slots of professional golfers ahead of the event slated to run from February 20 to 23 at the iconic Muthaiga Golf Club.
The massive boost will see Kenya now field 13 professionals up from eight while regional pros will have three spots, bringing the total to 16 regional professionals.
The MKO Local Organizing Committee (LOC) conceded to the demands of the Kenyan pros who have been protesting the move to reduce the local participants.
“Considering that the Magical Kenya Open is a unique tournament that brings together various stakeholders, we are pleased to announce the addition of five more Kenyan professionals,” read part of a statement from MKO LOC on Friday.
“This has taken place after rigorous consultations and discussions whereby the LOC considered the appeal from the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Board to ensure greater representation of Kenyan professional golfers in the game.”
“Therefore, the field will comprise 150 players from over 30 countries. The Magical Kenya Open (MKO) 2025 is scheduled to take place from Thursday, February 20th to Sunday, February 23rd, 2025, at the Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi, Kenya. This year’s tournament is part of the DP World Tour event calendar for professional golfers worldwide,” the LOC added.
This year’s Magical Kenya Open field will feature 150 players from over 30 countries, promising a world-class competition on Muthaiga’s pristine course.
