Lusigi elected Esports Federation Kenya president
Ronny Lusigi
has been elected the eSports Federation Kenya (ESFK) president following a vote
held on Wednesday to set up the national body's first ever elected body.
Lusigi won
with a landslide 23-4 in the race for the federation's top job against Mwanzia
Mwaniki with Anne Omondi taking the vice-president position after defeating
Celline Sheon 22-5.
“We thank
everyone for competing in a dignified manner and we are grateful as a team for
the delegates who believed in us and we shall put our best foot forward in
taking esports to a high level.
“We’ve
always had challenges because this is a new sport but we thank the Office of
the Registrar for guiding us with all the regulations that are required.
“We shall
sit together as a team and invite experts to help us set up a strategic plan
for now and the future,” Lusigi said.
The ESFK was
founded in 2018, the same year that the International Olympic Committee formed
the eSports and Gaming Liaison Group meant to push for the adoption of digital
sports.
The new
office will have the immediate task of preparing the Kenyan team for the Global
eSports Tour 2023 to be held in December in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
