Lithimbi wins Mombasa Chamber Inaugural Golf Tournament

Anthony Lithimbi produced an excellent performance to emerge as the overall winner of the inaugural Mombasa Chamber Golf Tournament held at the prestigious Nyali Golf and Country Club on Saturday.

Playing off handicap 15, Lithimbi returned an impressive 44 Stableford points to top a competitive field of 201 golfers drawn from across the coastal region and invited clubs.

His strong showing set the tone for what turned out to be a memorable first edition of the tournament organized by the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) – Mombasa Chapter.

“The course was beautiful, and it was a great day indeed. It was a well-organized event with a great atmosphere, and I’m grateful to the Chamber for creating such a platform,” said Lithimbi.

Sammy Mulama, playing off scratch (0 handicap), posted the best gross score of the day with a round of 75.

In the men’s category, Alpesh Malde (handicap 28) claimed top honours with a solid 43 points, while Tom Abwao (handicap 24) settled for runner-up on 39 points.

Mary Kandu stood out among the women, winning the category with 40 points off a 9 handicap. Teresia Odoo followed closely with 38 points to claim the runner-up spot.

Kandu also bagged the Longest Drive title in the women's category, adding flair to her outstanding performance.

In the juniors' category, Shay Chauhan (handicap 17) scored 32 points to walk away with the Best Junior award, while seasoned golfer Ijaz Sheikh (handicap 22) claimed the Best Senior title with 36 points.

Lydia Kamau, playing off a 35 handicap, dazzled in the guests’ category with 44 points, matching the overall winner’s tally.

Among staff participants, Elizabeth Mvoi a Mombasa based lawyer posted 35 points to emerge top.

The tournament also celebrated inclusivity with categories for high handicappers. Kabir Kakkar (handicap 36) led the men’s 28+ category with 38 points, while Millicent Palo (handicap 41) topped the 36+ women's category with 30 points.

In the invited coastal clubs’ category, Abel Cheboi (h/c 24) stood out with 40 points. Dan Mugambi took the Longest Drive in the men’s category, and Nancy Gathunga was closest to the pin.

KNCCI Mombasa Chapter Chairman Abud Jamal said the tournament was more than just a sporting event — it was a platform to bring together our partners, stakeholders, and business leaders in a relaxed and social setting.

He said the event would now become an annual tournament. “We are committed to growing it year after year.
