Lionesses tear Brazil in HSBC 7s II opener

Kenya Lionesses opened their HSBC 7s2 campaign with heart, grit and belief, rallying from behind to stun Brazil 15-12 in a thrilling Round One clash that showed the team's growing confidence on the international stage at Nyayo Stadium.

Brazil looked in control early, striking through Thalia Costa before Maysa Fernandes added the extras in the sixth minute. Bianca Silva then crossed moments later for an unconverted try, leaving the Lionesses chasing the game and testing their resolve against one of the more experienced sides in the competition.

But instead of folding, Kenya settled into their rhythm. Janet Okelo powered over before the break, lifting the bench and the crowd while reminding the team that the match was still within reach. That moment proved to be the turning point as the Lionesses returned for the second half with renewed belief and sharper execution.

Stella Wafula's effort pulled Kenya closer before Naomi Amuguni dotted down the decisive try in the 12th minute, completing a comeback built on patience, teamwork and discipline. Head Coach Simon Odongo praised the players' courage and commitment, "Playing against Brazil, a team that has been up there in the 7s Series, it was always going to be a tough game, but our ladies backed themselves. Sticking to the system really paid off and that’s how we got the win," he said.
