Lionesses launch World Series ticket hunt against Poland, Samoa
The national women’s sevens rugby team, Lionesses, have been drawn in Pool D of this year's Challenger Series alongside familiar foes Poland and Samoa.
The Lionesses are hunting for a spot in the HSBC World Series in the women's category having fallen short last year by missing out on the top four of the teams that qualified for the final shootout in Madrid, Spain.
Kenya and Poland last weekend played a friendly match at the RFUEA grounds as part of their preparations for the tourney that starts in South Africa on March 1, 2025.
The Dennis Mwenje-led charges defeated Poland 19-12 in the build-up match and the two sides will renew their rivalry in the Series.
The Lionesses are looking to break the glass ceiling and qualify for the World Rugby Series for the first time in their history after finishing fifth last year, outside the play-off spots.
Hosts South Africa headline Pool A alongside Czech Republic and Hong Kong China, while Pool B has Argentina, new entrants Thailand and Mexico.
Neighbours Uganda are in pool C alongside Belgium and Colombia.
