Leos run over Monks to defend Embu Sevens title in 3-peat feat
Strathmore Leos sevens side defended their
Embu 7s title over the weekend after defeating Catholic Monks 19-5 in the
final.
The win saw Leos bag their third consecutive
title since 2023.
Collins Maina was in red-hot form as he
touched down twice for the Leos, with Stanislaus Shikoli scoring the other try
to help Strathmore to their third consecutive Embu 7s title.
Arnold Muita converted two of the three tries
to end the match 19-5 in favor of Leos.
Monk’s sole unconverted try was scored by
Felix Okumu.
Strathmore Leos reached in the final after a
hard-fought 5-0 win against Rugby on the Road, with Catholic Monks defeating
Kabete Stallions 14-0 in the other semi-final.
Leos once again put on a spotless performance
in the Embu 7s completing the tournament unbeaten for the second year in a row.
They had earlier thrashed Administration
Police 36-0 in the quarter-final while Monks beat hosts Embu Dragons 26-12 in
the other quarter-final match.
Embu 7s is one of the most common local sevens
series that teams use to prepare for the National Sevens Circuit set for the
end of July.
The circuit kicks off on
the last weekend of July with the opening Christie 7s leg, followed by Kakamega
7s slated for August 3 and 4, 2024.
