Strathmore Leos are brimming with confidence as they shift focus to the upcoming National Sevens Circuit, following a statement win at the inaugural Ruff N Tuff 7s tournament. The university side claimed their first domestic title of the year with a convincing 21-5 victory over Mwamba RFC in the final held on Saturday at the Ngong Racecourse.
Head coach
Willis Ojal praised his squad’s determination and clarity of purpose. “We are
trying to fix everything and make sure we don’t have any lapses. We want to
start on a high and maintain that level throughout the circuit,” he said.
Ojal added that
the team is banking on several fresh talents who made their debut at the
tournament and showed they can perform at the highest level.
Definitely we
have a few boys like Jayden from Maseno School who just played in the final,
Morgan from Kisii School and I believe these additional boys would be able to
add a lot of value to the team.
Among the
standout performers was winger cum loose forward Gabriel Ayimba, who echoed the
coach’s sentiments. “Our target is to reach the podium in every leg of the
circuit because it will put us in the in a better position when it comes to the
final rankings.”

Tuff 7s served as a curtain-raiser for what promises to be a thrilling Sevens
season, with teams like Strathmore laying down the early marker.
With a solid mix
of experience and emerging talent, Strathmore Leos now aim to carry their
momentum into the circuit and possibly challenge for national supremacy.
