Leopards not to blame for Homeboyzs failure to win league Asibwa

Reginald Asibwa has come out to weigh on the continuing rivalry between his former side, AFC Leopards and Kakamega Homeboyz.

Asibwa said the war of words between the managements of these two teams is unhealthy and might trigger chaos ahead of their clash in the FKF Cup match semi-finals this coming Saturday.

In their war of words, Homeboyz is accusing Ingwe of taking away their chances of winning the 2021/2022 Premier League, a claim that Asibwa has dismissed.

“Leopards and Homeboyz need to tone down on chest-thumping. Their leadership must find ways of squaring out differences. Leopards are not to blame for standing in the way of Homeboyz who almost won the league,” Asibwa said.

“Homeboyz might not have been worthy league winners at the time. At the same time, Leopards are not at a point where they are being accused of stopping other teams from lifting the trophy, they should be focused on winning the league themselves,” he as reported by a local publication.

According to him, it was a shame that Ingwe had reduced itself from being a continental football powerhouse to a point they are accused of stopping other teams from winning the league. He now wants his former side to focus on winning trophies instead of engaging in verbal tirades.

Asibwa further noted that the current exchanges between the two clubs would foment trouble during the ‘Ingo’ derby.

His statement was echoed by Harambee Stars Under-17 team manager Nick Yakhama who noted that the exchanges between the two clubs would appal their fans.

“The leadership should calm these rising temperatures and improve these Kenyan soccer powerhouses,” he said.
