AFC Leopards are set to finalize their security detail in a
pre-match scheduled for tomorrow ahead of their blockbuster FKF-PL derby clash
against defending champions Gor Mahia at Nyayo National Stadium this Sunday.
The high-octane battle, the most-watched football encounter
locally, is expected to be electric, with both teams going for maximum points
in their quest for the league title and bragging rights.
Andugu is confident that they are going to prepare adequately to
provide enough security for the fans’ safety on Sunday.
“The team is fully prepared for the battle, and so we are going to
plan tomorrow in the pre-match to decide where fans of both teams shall sit and
how much the tickets will be sold as well as how the fans will access the
tickets, which will be available online.
We will deliberate on the number of security officers we will
need as well as the overall seating arrangement for the VIP and the VVIP”,
Andugu said.
The Club Secretary General Gilbert Andugu has urged Leopards
fans as hosts to be vigilant and deal with any behavior that would cause a
security breach.
“It is our responsibility to ensure our fans observe decorum and
I want to urge them to force out any fan who will try to cause chaos.
We are the home team and so it is paramount to have a peaceful
clash and that nobody taints our name because of any form of chaos”, added
Andugu.
He has rallied Gor Mahia fans to cheer their team peacefully
without causing chaos.
“I will also urge Gor Mahia fans to echo the same by dealing
with anyone who may try to misbehave in the stadium.
Should we allow any form of chaos and property destruction then
I can tell you the fine won’t be small”, Andugu underscored.
The former Mombasa branch chairman has also called upon Leopards
fans to come out in large numbers to cheer their home team.
“The team, however, is in the right shape for the derby, and I
can assure our fans that we are going to win that match.
Let them come out in large numbers to cheer the boys; come with
your families, and you will be able to enjoy the match”, Andugu concluded.
Leopards are sitting fifth on the log standings with 36 points,
nine behind leaders Kenya Police FC and six behind third-placed Gor Mahia.
