Leonard Saleh unveiled as Luanda Villa head coach

Luanda Villa FC have appointed Leonard Saleh as the new head coach, replacing Gilbert Selebwa who left the National Super League (NSL) club for Division One side Hoha FC during the Christmas break.

During the unveiling ceremony on Monday, the former KCB coach vowed to steer the club towards their season target.

“Without pressure there is no football and I’m ready for the challenge. I have experience of lifting teams from the valley. I hope for the best,” he said.

The club’s chairman Moses Abwenje said Saleh was the best person to take Villa to the next level thanks to his track record.

“We have a young talent which we need to nurture and Saleh who headed the Harambee Stars Under-20 team is the fit person for us. He has a rich CV having coached KCB and Homeboyz teams and the topflight experience will be very important for our ambitions.”

“This year we had tough rules on the qualifications a coach needs to have before training a national Super League team. Saleh is a CAF A licensed holder and we believe he has what it takes to ensure the team qualifies for premier league next season,” he added.

Abwenje also urged potential sponsors to come on board as financial constraints continue to bite.

Saleh’s stint with Villa starts this Sunday when they host Nairobi United FC at Mumboha Grounds. Villa are sixth in the NSL standings on 22 points.
