Fresh off a nail-biting 71-69 victory over defending champions Dr. Aggrey, Laiser Hill High School’s basketball team is setting its sights on an even bigger stage - the East Africa Secondary School Games.

After clinching the national high school basketball championship in Mombasa, the reigning kings of Kenyan hoops aren’t resting on their laurels. With Kenya set to host this year’s East African showdown, Laiser Hill is determined to represent the country in style.

“We’re going back to the drawing board,” said team captain Duncan Ochieng.

“We’ll fix the mistakes we made in the nationals and make sure we’re at our best for the East Africa Games. Kenya is the host, and as national champions, Laiser Hill must fly the flag high.”

The team knows the stakes are higher than ever, especially playing on home soil. Their focus now shifts to sharpening their play and correcting lapses as they prepare to take on the region’s best.

Meanwhile, tournament sponsor Brookside Dairy expressed satisfaction with the level of competition at this year’s first-term games. The company also announced ongoing discussions with the government to potentially expand support to second-term sports - such as football - that weren’t featured this time around.

“As term two approaches, we’re looking into opportunities to support more school games,” said Brookside Communications Officer Wilson Okong’o.

“Youth are the future, and we want to be part of every program that helps grow their talent.”

All semi-finalists across various disciplines earned a coveted spot to represent Kenya at the East Africa Secondary School Games, promising a strong contingent from the host nation.

The national championship officially wrapped up Saturday in Mombasa, but for Laiser Hill, the journey is far from over. Their next mission? Dominate East Africa!
