In a spirited
display that may define their season, FKF Women's Premier League side Kisped
Queens took a significant step towards league survival with a hard-fought 2-1
win over Bunyore Starlets on Saturday.
The particular
victory lifted the WPL debutants out of the relegation zone and into seventh
place on the league standings, with 24 points from 18 matches, and look poised
to maintain their top-flight status with just three games left to the end of
the season.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Kisped's head coach
Daniel Minjis stated that the Saturday's win brought a sigh of relief in his
camp. “This win has brought us great relief,” said an elated Minjis after the
match.
“We’ve been
under pressure, but today the girls showed heart, resilience, and character. We
are confident now — our goal to remain in the Premier League is firmly within
reach.”
The match, played
under tense conditions, saw Kisped Queens take an early lead, controlling the
pace and showing tactical maturity that belied their status as league
newcomers. Bunyore Starlets mounted a spirited challenge, pulling a goal back,
but Kisped’s defensive line held firm, ensuring a precious three points.
